Zzzzz, the concept :
In 2010, the recording of snoring first began with friends and then strangers; a small sound collection then begins to emerge. It feeds from 2014 different projects and weaves a thread between them: two live electronic solos (one written, the other improvised), an album, a composition of mixed music for electronics and hurdy-gurdy, a sound installation and acousmatic music.
The interest in snoring lies in the ambiguity of a sleep that can be both restorative and difficult. Uncontrollable expressions of the human body, they are generally hated, disturbing, and all sorts of techniques are imagined to constrain them, to see them removed.
Through snoring it is also sleep that is summoned in that it allows us to digest the daily flow of information to which we are subjected consciously and unconsciously. The different cycles that compose it (drowsiness, light sleep, deep sleep, paradoxical sleep) are a nutritious material for shaping sound works.
As soon as the evocation of sleep is given to hear, the notion of dream invites itself and allows to propose the strangest sound situations, in particular by means of phonographs.
Musically, snoring imposes a deeply human temporality; his deep tempo is rich with subtle rhythmic variations. Its sound qualities open the field of rubbed and respiratory objects; it is possible to suggest it instrumentally. Moreover, its simple and constant distribution throughout the pieces gives interesting perspectives in relation to the music that accompanies it: it serves as a reference known by all and sets us back against the proposed sound situations, thus avoiding the flattering immersive position of the listener by keeping the listener active. It is a real focal point around which sound spaces open and close.
Often gently aired while the audience enters the room, his tempo soothes the listener and makes him available to enter the concert. Dualistic in the image of its binary rhythm, it has the capacity to be soft and enveloping, or aggressive and disturbing.
This set of records is the backbone of Zzzzz projects and continues to be powered.

Zzzzz#l'album
Available for listening and buying for a modest price : Zzzzz
This album is conceived as a work, intended for a domestic and comfortable listening.
Some tracks are written specifically this disc, the others are extracted from a preparatory work to the solo concert with the same name Zzzzz.
These 3/4 hours of music are lined with instrumental sound objects (but no known instrument), minimal pulsations and breathing rhythms structuring a time that would tend to disappear these days. I'm talking here about breathing and listening.
It is a haunting music in which the body can indulge in throbbing lullabies and sculpted materials.

Zzzzz#Solo
Zzzzz # solo is an electroacoustic solo that puts together fixed sounds, analog synthesis and a microphone leaning over an object box. By a clever game of loops, the sound materials made directly rub a collection of snoring. Improvised composition or composed improvisation, it is a music with acousmatic mechanics, the one that closes the eyes and opens the ears.

Zzzzz#Duo
Yoann Sanson, composer of electroacoustic music joins Tine Devolder and his hurdy-gurdy to deliver a mixed music exploiting sensory concepts in the form of original compositions written and played live. This nascent duo digs the sound alchemy that can be established between a traditional instrument framed in its heritage and modern instruments of sound processing and electronic synthesis. He explores the unconscious wealth of sleep and its power of decantation in everyday life.
This duo bears the sweet name of Zzzzz#duo, in reference to the snoring that cradles our sleep and homophony with the stridulation of the dog hurdy-gurdy. It is thus a music of the friction where the old woman, after having answered its musical tradition, is brought to deliver singular sounds by contemporary modes of play. The electronics when it is considered as an outgrowth of the old and as an emotional instrument in its own right. Under the name "electronic" I group electroacoustic music, sound synthesis, phonography and object manipulation, all these elements passing through a common tool that is computer and multicasting. |
